VVO Group extends the VAETS agreement

IoT helps to ensure even better living conditions

According to Kimmo Rintala, Unit Director of Real Estate Development at VVO Group, the main goal of the company’s energy efficiency efforts is the consistent quality of living conditions. The Internet of Things (IoT) and other new technological solutions help in the real-time monitoring of conditions and thus contribute to ensuring their quality.

IoT bringing consistent living comfort to VVO Group’s properties in Espoo

VVO Group and the network operator Digita tested the collection and utilisation of apartment temperature and humidity data in a joint pilot project during the spring 2016. The goal is to adjust the systems in the property on the basis of the data collected so that living conditions stay optimal. The pilot project was conducted in 200 rental apartments in Espoo.

“It becomes easier to maintain healthy living conditions when factors that affect the customer experience are identified in real time. In addition, clear apartment-specific defects can be discovered through constant measuring even before the customer reacts to them. We are already carrying out similar measurements in several properties, but Digita’s solution does not require any property-specific installation: the sensors on the interior walls of apartments communicate directly with Digita’s system. This is the new era of energy efficiency, genuinely focusing on living comfort”, says Kimmo Rintala.

In 2015, the temperature-corrected consumption of heating energy in VVO Group’s properties decreased by -0.8% when compared to 2014. This year, the forecast for heating energy consumption when compared to 2015 is -3.0%.
