Live the urban dream in Sompasaari – new waterfront rental properties by Lumo available this summer
The sea is ever present in Helsinki’s new and truly unique Sompasaari neighbourhood, offering a fresh urban living experience in the Finnish capital. A total of 64 Lumo rental apartments are set to be completed at Vinsentinaukio 4 on the southern tip of the island this summer. The brand new properties will enjoy a wonderful location surrounded by water, with a shared courtyard garden providing the perfect setting for the community to get together.

Once rocky and sparsely populated, Sompasaari used to be a popular destination for daytrippers. The island was home to an observation tower, which visitors could access by steamer. At the beginning of the 20th century, Sompasaari had fewer than 30 permanent residents. The island was acquired by the Elanto cooperative in the 1920s, and a few decades later it was levelled and linked to the mainland as the port in nearby Sörnäinen underwent an expansion.

Sompasaari has now been transformed into a unique example of urban waterfront living. The 64 new rental apartments developed by Lumo are located on the island’s narrow southern tip and are due for completion this summer. Demand for larger homes is particularly strong at the moment.

“When I’m out and about in Sompasaari, I always feel like I’m abroad. The canals give it a slightly Venice-like feel, and you can tell that there’s a real community forming here. Our new development at Vinsentinaukio 4 right by the Nihdinkanava canal is set for completion this summer and has a range of homes available from studios to four-bedroom properties, and there’s even a five-bedroom property with a sauna available. Demand for larger properties is particularly strong at the moment. We’ve used high specification materials throughout, which I’m sure will appeal to discerning property hunters,” Lumo Sales Director Ville Kilpi commented.

Shared facilities and services

The top floor of the development is home to a communal sauna, complete with sea views, a club room and there’s even a car sharing vehicle available for residents. A courtyard garden has been created to lend a sense of community and cohesion to the development. In addition to a playground, it will feature a barbecue area and a gym, and there are plans for an urban vegetable garden too. Vinsentinaukio will be among the first developments to benefit from a range of smart building solutions, ranging from lighting controls to water consumption monitoring.

“The services and facilities this development offers are designed to make the residents’ everyday lives run that little bit smoother. The communal spaces act as an extension to people’s private homes and the new social contacts will enhance their quality of life. That is a real priority for us at Lumo,”  Ville Kilpi said.

New homes now available online

The 64 new homes at Vinsentinaukio 4 are now available to rent online.  A second Lumo new build development is currently being built at Fregatti Dygdeninkuja 5.

The apartments can be rented through the website, and there is no need to submit a separate application. The new Lumo homes in Sompasaari will be ready to move into this summer.
