Kojamo builds thousands of nearly zero-energy apartments (nZEB) in Finland’s growth centres
Kojamo and the European Investment Bank (EIB) have today signed an unsecured loan agreement of EUR 95 million. The financing is the second part of in total EUR 170 million of long-term financing from EIB, which will be used to fund the construction of nearly zero-energy buildings (nZEBs), agreed on 28 November 2016.
Financial co-operation with EIB supports Kojamo in its goal of being a frontrunner in sustainable development. All new buildings constructed by Kojamo are nearly zero-energy buildings. In use, their energy consumption and therefore their CO2-emissions will be considerably lower compared to other types of housing.
“The financing is targeted at new, nearly zero-energy buildings in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area and Finland’s other growth centres. By 1 March 2018, we have made investment decisions on the construction of 1,925 Lumo nZEB rental apartments, 467 of which are already completed. All nZEB projects currently under preparation or in construction cover a total of 1,456 apartments. In addition to the investment decisions already made, we are planning a similar number of nZEB apartments, 1,577 in total. The EIB financing substantially supports these investments”, says Kojamo’s CEO Jani Nieminen.
The loans granted by the EIB fall under the scope of the European Fund for Strategic Investment (EFSI). Initiated by the European Commission, EFSI is part of the investment Plan for Europe, the goal of which is to increase the amount of private investments, accelerate economic growth and improve employment rates in the EU.
