Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark GRESB
Since 2009, Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark GRESB has annually assessed and benchmarked the sustainability performance of property portfolios. GRESB Assessments are used to measure the operations of real estate sector companies from the perspective of sustainable development, and the assessment provides an internationally comparable result.
The GRESB Assessment extensively covers a wide range of areas of sustainability on both the company and asset level: company-level management of sustainability, policies and principles, reporting, risk management, sustainability of the supply chain, environmental performance of the asset portfolio and stakeholder cooperation.
In 2020, more than 1,200 companies and funds from 64 different countries with a total of over 96,000 assets participated in the GRESB Assessment. The assessment was based on the reporting year 2019.
Full score on personnel responsibility
Kojamo’s special strength in the GRESB Assessment was the responsibility for the personnel, on which it scored full marks. In addition, the company received an excellent result on responsibility and sustainability management, reporting, risk management and stakeholder cooperation as well as responsibility and sustainability policies and principles. High marks were also achieved in the monitoring and management of the property portfolio’s energy consumption and measuring greenhouse gas emissions.
“This is a great acknowledgement and an excellent result for a first-timer. GRESB is an internationally known sustainability assessment and industry benchmark that provides a good foundation for the long-term development of corporate responsibility. We have invested in the development of our sustainability work for several years now, and this goes to show that we are doing the right things in developing our sustainability,” rejoices Hannamari Koivula, Manager, Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability at Kojamo.
Kojamo also aims for high-quality and comprehensive sustainability reporting in the future. The company will report in accordance with the GRESB, GRI and EPRA frameworks and continuously develop its reporting.
“Participating in a transparent and respected third-party sustainability assessment is an important part of our sustainability work and related stakeholder communications. GRESB provides an excellent and extensive framework for our sustainability work, and we have several different development projects ongoing with the different GRESB areas,” says Koivula.
