First shared van for residents introduced in Helsinki

At the end of February, residents of Lumo homes became the first to be offered the use a shared van at Retkeilijänkatu 1.

In addition to the shared van, the residents can book a passenger car from the adjacent Rastinkallio parking hall. Both vehicles are available to all residents of Lumo homes. The shared van is an ecologically efficient driving concept developed by the Lumo brand and 24Rent. It is a cost-effective service for those who occasionally need the use of a passenger car or van.

– The user experiences from the van pilot project will help us consider expanding the van service to other localities as well, says Sales Manager Mikko Purola from the VVO Group.

Popularity of shared vehicles on the increase

The additional transport service of a shared vehicle is a convenient supplement to public transport. In a couple of years, Lumo and 24Rent have introduced shared vehicles in Tampere, Espoo, Hel-sinki, Vantaa, Turku, Oulu, Jyväskylä and Lahti.

According to Purola, one shared vehicle substitutes for, on average, 8–25 privately owned vehicles. With the use of shared vehicles, the need for parking spaces at apartment buildings is estimated to be reduced by about 30–40%. The shared vehicle experiment has already gathered 500 registered residents from Lumo apartments. Out of these residents, 380 have used the service.
