Carbon-neutralheating for Kojamo’s properties reduces carbon footprint of maintenance by 10per cent

Kojamo plc Press release 8 November 2019 at 10.00 a.m.

Carbon-neutral heating for Kojamo’s properties reduces carbon footprint of maintenance by 10 per cent

Fortum’s carbon-neutral district heating will be introduced in the housing investment company Kojamo’s properties. As a result, Kojamo’s carbon footprint will be reduced by approximately 6,900 tonnes of carbon dioxide. Carbon-neutral heating reduces carbon footprint of maintenance by 10 per cent. The amount is equal to the annual carbon dioxide emissions of approximately 800 Finns.

Fortum’s carbon-neutral district heating in Kojamo’s properties is fully produced with renewable energies or waste heat. They are mainly produced with waste water heat, data centre heat and pellets that are comparable to renewable energies. Carbon-neutral district heating will be introduced in 79 of Kojamo’s properties (4,000 apartments) in Espoo, Kirkkonummi, Kauniainen, Tuusula and Järvenpää.

“Energy efficiency improvements are an integral part of the more ecological housing of the future and our environmental responsibility. The carbon-neutral district heating is effective means of reducing our total carbon footprint,” says Pasi Kujansuu, Head of Kojamo’s Property Services unit.

In addition to the carbon-neutral district heating, carbon-neutral hydropower-certified property electricity is used in all of Kojamo’s properties. Kojamo’s new construction projects have been implemented as nearly zero-energy buildings since 2017. There are constantly more than 1,000 apartments under construction.
