We hire a total of four 18–26-year-old young adults who will move to a shared Lumo apartment either in Roihuvuori or Rastila in Helsinki and work for the general good of the neighbourhood. They can stay at the apartment after the experiment ends in May 2018.
We will realise a pilot project combining work and sharing an apartment together with the Homma himaan service. The Homma himaan service is a digital apartment and job search platform. The tenants will receive a salary for the work done for the good of the neighbourhood. Tasks include, for instance, working as the property manager’s assistant, helping out elderly residents and developing the operations on shared premises.
“Home is an important place for all of us, and a meaningful job increases well-being. This pilot project is a significant part of developing Lumo services where communality plays an important role,” says Pia Jaakola, Head of Sales Services Unit.
“Encounters of different people are valuable. It’s important to create structures that promote communality. They enrich the lives of individuals and the entire neighbourhood. Together with Lumo Homes, Homma himaan is building a better century for the youth,” says Miki Mielonen from the Homma Himaan project.
The Vuosisadan Rakentajat (Builders of the Century) challenge is open for everyone and focuses on youth. The competition looks for ideas that improve young people’s well-being and enable them to participate in society more fully both now and in the future. Homma himaan develops the service as one of the finalists of the Vuosisadan Rakentajat (Builders of the Century) competition. The competition ends in October 2017.
