The Virkeä programme supports the activities of young athletes and well-being with sports. The programme sponsors talented athletes on their way to success and supports the sports hobbies of youth with grants. The Virkeä programme’s application period for team sponsorship and grants is now on.
Sports clubs can apply for the team sponsorship support until the end of September. The support can be directed to a club that engages in competitive activities and has an objective of developing young talents into international competitive athletes.
“We hope to receive applications from clubs that have the will to succeed and the desire to develop. We want to support the joy of exercise and the efforts made to reach goals: both as a team and as individuals,” says CEO Jani Nieminen.
As of the beginning of 2016, the Virkeä programme also includes team sports. The selected sports teams for the 2017 season are the FC Honka women’s championship team N1, the girl’s B-series Finnish championship team, the T02 academy, T03 academy, T04 academy and T05 academy.

Virkeä grants are also awarded to young athletes who are members of a sports club from all around Finland. The goal of the grant is to further encourage 12–20-year-old athletes who show commitment to training and a passion for success in their sporting careers. Grants are awarded for both team and individual sports. The grants can be applied by young promising athletes living in Lumo and VVO homes as well as elsewhere who need support for their hobby. The application period for the Virkeä grants is 1–30 September 2017.
