Lumo invests in the accessibility of parcel lockers

Parcel lockers have already made everyday life easier for residents of nearly 70 Lumo buildings. The number of parcel lockers has almost doubled in a year, and the network is continuously being expanded in line with customers’ wishes.

The parcel lockers that Lumo residents are familiar with have been part of everyday life in the capital region since 2017. In 2024, the network was expanded to 30 new buildings in Helsinki, Espoo, Hämeenlinna, Porvoo, Lahti and Kuopio. In the spring of 2025, the plan is to expand the service to the surrounding municipalities of the capital region as well as to new cities.

The growth in online shopping increases the demand for parcel lockers

The increase in the number of online purchases has increased the demand for parcel lockers, and PostNord’s Lähiboksi parcel lockers meet this need. The Lähiboksi lockers are placed outdoors close to residential buildings, which makes it easy to pick up parcels around the clock. The parcel lockers are available to all residents in the area.

“The parcel lockers have proven to be an important housing service. It’s great that we can bring PostNord’s Lähiboksi lockers to more and more neighbourhoods and make our residents happy,” says Riikka Ilmakunnas, Concept Manager for Lumo Homes.

PostNord has strong experience in the development of parcel locker networks.

“PostNord’s Lähiboksi lockers have previously been in use in other Nordic countries, and also in Finland since 2022. The user experiences have been good, so the network of parcel lockers has been expanded every year based on demand. PostNord currently has the most extensive parcel locker network in residential areas in Finland, now that Posti has phased out its private lockers,” says Juha Peltola, manager of PostNord’s Lähiboksi lockers.

The location of parcel lockers depends on the residents’ needs

The location of a parcel locker is chosen based on demand and local opportunities.

“PostNord suggests cities based on how they are expanding their parcel locker network and which districts and micro-locations they can see would have demand for them. We then survey our buildings in these areas, and the property manager checks whether the place in question is suitable for this purpose. First and foremost, we want to keep the yards of Lumo buildings comfortable and peaceful for our residents,” says Ilmakunnas.

The Lähiboksi parcel locker located in the yard of the Itäinen Pitkäkatu Lumo building in Turku has proven to be one of the most popular parcel lockers in Finland.

“This year, we added a third parcel locker near this building so that our residents’ parcels would not be directed to other pickup points, further away from home,” Ilmakunnas says.

According to the Lumo Homes sustainability survey, parcel lockers are one of the most interesting housing services that support a sustainable lifestyle. One Lumo resident in Helsinki sums up the value of the service:

“It’s great to have a parcel locker right there in our yard. You don’t have to worry about whether you can make it to the pickup point after work.”

The development of Lumo homes’ services aims to make everyday life easy and effortless – as part of a modern lifestyle.
