Kojamo is re-opening the old University of Technology for the AEC Hackathon Helsinki event on 7–9 September 2018 and challenges the participants to think about urban living as a service.
The AEC Hackathon in Helsinki is an event for the real estate and construction industries, which is a part of the World Summit on Digital Built Environment (WDBE) 2018. The main themes of the Hackathon this weekend are the development and future of urban living.
The Hackathon’s assignment: living as a service
Lumo is rental housing at its best, but how will better urban living look in the future? This is the question Kojamo’s Chief Development Officer Teemu Suila is seeking well-founded answers to in the Hackathon.
“People’s life situations change constantly and individual requirements need to be considered. We want our customers to experience Lumo housing as a service now and in the future,” says Suila.
The participants of the Hackathon are assigned to view urban living as a service from the perspective of both the customer and the service provider. Suila is looking for feasible development ideas based on actual needs and concrete solutions for them.
“We want to provide our customers with services that make daily life easier, increase the attractiveness of housing and improve the sense of community, from which everyone can choose the ones that suit them best,” explains Suila.
The aim is to develop a networked service platform that will enable agile innovation implementation in cooperation with other operators. Kojamo’s properties form the platform to which the new services can be easily connected.

The future of the old University of Technology property, now owned by Kojamo, is being discussed. The assignment of the Hackathon is to study how better urban living could be realised in the property in the best possible way.
“I hope that the participants pay attention to both consumers and corporate customers. I believe that we can amass a lot of innovative proposals in the Hackathon, which will challenge traditional views on urban housing,” says Heikki Hirvonen, Project Director at Kojamo.

An open urban event
The event is free of charge and open to everyone. The language used in the Hackathon is English and, so far, more than 60 people have signed up. You can also have a closer look at the property and the event without registration.
