The Lumo sponsorship and grant programme supports top Finnish athletes as well as individual and team sports for young people. In 2019, the sponsored individual athletes are Anna Haataja (orienteering, long-distance running), Joona Kangas (ski slopestyle), Henry Manni (wheelchair racing), Oskari Mörö (400m hurdles), Nooralotta Neziri (100m hurdles) and Emmi Parkkisenniemi (snowboarding).
Launched in 2012, the sponsorship and grant programme promotes wellbeing through physical activity by awarding grants and sponsorship to young, promising athletes. In addition to sponsoring individuals, the programme also includes a team sponsorship partnership that continues with the Helsinki Figure Skating Club. In 2019, three synchronised skating teams competing at the national championships level (Helsinki Rockettes, Team Fintastic, Finettes and Novettes), as well as four Academy groups will be included in the programme.
Lumo has left its mark on the side of a racing wheelchair and dreams
Both Henry Manni and Nooralotta Neziri have been in the sponsorship programme since the beginning. For them, long-term sponsorship provides the opportunity to focus on their goals and dreams:
“It’s great to continue the Lumo cooperation! Long-term cooperation creates results for both the athlete and the sponsoring company. For an athlete, long-term cooperation provides the chance to fully focus on your goals and dreams,” says Nooralotta Neziri.
“Lumo has been part of my team since 2012, making it my most long-term sponsor. The support has enabled plenty of camps and trips to competitions that are surely also reflected in my success in championships. Seeing the Lumo sticker on the side of my racing wheelchair always picks up my spirits,” says Henry Manni about the significance of a long-term sponsorship support.
Lumo grants to support hobbies
Lumo grants are awarded twice a year to 12–20-year-old athletes who show commitment to training and a passion for success to encourage them in their sporting careers. The grants are available to any promising young athletes who have already engaged in active sports as a member of a sports club for several years and who need financial support for their hobby. Lumo’s and VVO’s tenants are given priority in the selection. Grants are awarded for both team and individual sports twice a year. A total of 340 grants have been awarded since autumn 2012.
