Kojamo joins the Down a degree energy saving campaign

Kojamo plc Media release 6 October 2022 at 10:00 a.m.

Kojamo joins the Down a degree energy saving campaign

Kojamo is involved in the national Down a degree campaign where we encourage Lumo residents to take practical energy-saving measures that have an immediate effect. We have been using artificial intelligence to optimise the indoor temperature of our apartments for several years. We also offer our residents energy saving tips throughout the heating season. Kojamo's own commercial properties also participate in the campaign.

Finnish residential properties have a lot of potential for saving energy by lowering room temperatures, controlling ventilation and optimising the use of hot water.

We have been optimising our property portfolio with AI for several years now. We attach importance to efficient energy use and energy-saving measures at a time when the Russian offensive war is tightening Europe's energy situation. By participating in the Down a degree campaign, we will reach more than 50,000 residents of Lumo homes,” says Chief Investment Officer Ville Raitio.

The indoor temperatures of Lumo buildings have been optimised with AI solutions for many years in a large part of our property portfolio. We monitor the indoor temperatures in the apartments in real time. Optimising the indoor temperature of the apartments is important for the well-being of the residents and for housing costs. With the smart solution, we have the ability to control the indoor temperature of Lumo homes to an accuracy of 0.1°C. Smart solutions for housing are part of our sustainability programme, improving the customer experience.

Energy optimisation and saving instruments now play an even more important role. In order to increase energy efficiency, we regularly carry out maintenance rounds of residential plumbing fixtures, during which we install water-saving fixtures in about 5,000 homes each year. We take energy-efficient plumbing fixtures into account in the material choices of new and renovation construction, and we increase energy use training for our employees and partners,” Raitio continues.

We are actively monitoring product development in the sector and are introducing new solutions to improve energy efficiency. Developing energy efficiency is an important part of our climate work. Our target is carbon-neutral energy consumption for our properties by 2030.
