A total of 119 modern rental apartments to be completed in a former office building in Pohjois-Haaga
Designed by the Swiss architect Bruno Erat for Postipankki, the office building known as Lassilanlinna was completed in Helsinki's Pohjois-Haaga district in 1992. Following a comprehensive renovation project, the building will gain a new lease on life in February–March 2026 when the first Lumo homes residents will move in. Located at Sentnerikuja 2, these modern homes with a colourful history are now available for rent.
Although it is not unusual these days for old properties to be renovated instead of demolishing them, conversion projects that change the purpose of a property's use in connection with its renovation are less common. The Lassilanlinna property, which is located in Helsinki's Pohjois-Haaga district and was originally built as the IT services office for Postipankki, was given a new lease on life when Kojamo decided to take the building's floors which it owned, and which were in office use, and convert them into Lumo homes.
"Converting office premises into apartments is a process that requires a great deal of planning. In practice, the interiors of the Lassilanlinna building were stripped down to the concrete surfaces, after which the building services required for residential use, along with the surface materials and fixtures of the homes, were installed in the property and the future homes," says Toni Kankare, Unit Director, Construction at Kojamo.
According to Kankare, the comprehensive renovation projection at Sentnerikuja 2 is also a good example of adherence to the principles of sustainable construction.
Bruno Erat (1939-2023), Lic.Sc. (Tech.), the original architect of Lassilanlinna, was an undisputed pioneer in sustainable construction. Born in Switzerland, Erat moved to Finland in 1965 to work at the architecture firm of Alvar Aalto, whom he admired. During his time as a visiting professor in the United States between 1968 and 1970, he also became interested in the ecological state of the world and the environmental impacts of construction and housing.
Modern housing in a green district
Located in a pleasant and green area, the six-storey red-brick building at Sentnerikuja 2 will soon offer 119 modern and bright Lumo homes, ranging from functional studios to spacious two-bedroom apartments. Most of the apartments have a glazed balcony or a French balcony. All of the homes will feature a timeless bright Scandinavian aesthetic, and the fittings and equipment are designed for easy everyday life.
"You can sense the rich history of Sentnerikuja 2 as soon as you enter the spacious and impressive lobby. The building features a lavish club and event room for use by the residents. Its high arched windows give the space a unique look. In addition, the two sauna facilities with rooftop terraces, located on the top floor, add luxury and a sense of community to daily life," says Sales Director Laura Koiranen from Lumo homes.
Sentnerikuja 2 is located in close proximity to services and excellent public transport connections. Shopping Centre Kaari is only a short walk away, as are public transport options including the Pohjois-Haaga railway station and Jokeri Light Rail, which passes through Haaga. One of the attractions in the district is the unique Haaga Rhododendron Park.
The apartments at Sentnerikuja 2 are available for rent in the Lumo webstore. The new homes will be ready to move into when the conversion project is completed in February–March 2026.
