Under VVO Group’s Virkeä programme, sponsorships were awarded to 25 promising athletes in the application round of autumn 2016. The sponsorship grant may be awarded to a young athlete of 12–20 years of age who has shown commitment and desire to succeed in his/her sport. A total of 225 grants have been awarded since 2012.
Virkeä grants are targeted according to actual needs. In her message, Maarit Vaheri, the mother of a young athlete who was awarded a grant, described its significance.
“A huge thank you from both the athlete and the mother! This brought tears to my eyes, it is such a big help right now.”
The Virkeä programme promotes exercise and healthy lifestyles among young people in various ways, including the awarding of sponsorships grants twice per year. In order to be eligible for the grant, the athlete must have a track record going back several years at the club level. Grants are awarded for both team and individual sports. Applications are accepted from athletes who need financial support to help them continue their pursuit of sporting success.
