Pick up keys easily from your own yard

The keys to Lumo homes can now be picked up and returned easily in Helsinki via the key machines installed in residential buildings.

Lumo installed 26 key machines in Lumo buildings in East and North Helsinki to facilitate key management for their residents. The new machines serve nearly 5,000 Lumo residents.

“Who hasn’t had to deal with the headache of picking up or returning keys at some point when moving? Maybe the keys could only be picked up on weekdays during office hours or returned dozens of kilometres away immediately after a long moving day — a familiar feeling. We wanted to make moving easier for our customers, and in this, the development of key management was literally the key,” says Ville Kilpi, Director of House Management at Lumo Homes.

In East and North Helsinki, the keys to Lumo homes can now be easily picked up or returned in connection with a move via a key machine in the building or yard. Additional keys can also be ordered to the machine as needed.

“And best of all: the machines are open around the clock every day of the year,” says Kilpi.

Most of the key machines are located in the draught lobbies of Lumo buildings. In terraced houses, the machines are attached to the exterior wall of the building. One key machine serves the residents of 1-5 Lumo buildings in the area, and each machine has 30 spots for keys. If a machine happens to be full, the keys are directed to the nearest available machine.

“Our long-standing lock partner Turvaexpertit — better known as TEXA — took care of the installation of the machines together with our partner in charge of electrical work, Aro Systems. Going forward, TEXA will also take care of the key management of the Lumo buildings in East and North Helsinki. The key machine network significantly streamlines the implementation of key management services,” says Pasi Kujansuu, Director of Property Services at Lumo Homes.

A resident collecting or returning keys receives a personal PIN code, which grants access to a designated entrance hall and can be used only once through a separately installed door code system. “This way we ensure the safety of the building’s residents,” Kujansuu explains about the use of the key machine.

In Oulu, key machines have already served Lumo residents for a couple of years, and residents have praised their addition. In Oulu, the key machines have been especially placed close to grocery stores, while in Helsinki, the keys have been brought even closer to the residents.
